Today I introduce to you, the Food Section of this blog!
I’ll be introducing new dishes, snacks and other famous foods from Japan! Enjoy!
And I will start with Takoyaki!
Takoyaki (たこ焼き) literally means “grilled octopus”, and it is a Japanese ball-shaped Japanese dish made of a wheat flour based batter, filled with little pieces of octopus, tempura scraps (天かす, てんかす, tenkasu), pickled ginger and green onion. Here at home we also fill it with little pieces of sausage.
It is grilled in a special pan (たこ焼き機, たこやきき, takoyakiki) that has many slots for it, as shown below!
After they are grilled, the takoyaki are brushed with takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise (bottom right corner, in the photo above). Then they are sprinkled with green laver (青のり, あおのり, aonori) and shavings of dried bonito (鰹節, かつおぶし, katsuobushi), which are in the photo below.
There are many ways of preparing takoyaki. There are shops dedicated only to takoyaki that prepare them in various ways and flavors.
Anyway, it’s delicious! 😀
