Best Spot 12: Asakusa (浅草)

Asakusa (浅草) is a district in Taito-ku, Tokyo. It is most famous for the Sensouji Temple, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. There are several other temples in Asakusa, as well as various festivals.

In my opinion, this is one of the places in Tokyo that feel like “traditional” the most. There is a long street surrounded by a lot of stores where you can choose from a really big variety of souvenirs, little shops where you can buy traditional sweets and other famous foods or snacks. This street takes you directly from the Kaminarimon (picture above) to the Sensouji Temple.
If I had a few days to make tour in Tokyo, I would visit this place in last, and would make my souvenir shopping here.

In the picture above, Tokyo Sky Tree lights up Asakusa background. Beautiful isn’t it? 🙂
